Introduction The Reel Attachment Device (RAD) replaces the captive bolt on the reel for the 90 Series cutter. It requires a new main drive shaft and a separate electric/pneumatic circuit for installation and operation. While DM&E technicians field install the RAD, it is available as an option on new cutters.
General Description The RAD is a pneumatically operated mechanism incorporating a torque sensing limit switch and a pneumatic logic circuit to prevent over tightening. It is powered by a air motor, without concern for electrical requirements throughout the world. A drawbar raises the cutter reel and locks it into position. The drawbar also lowers the reel for replacement.
Operation To install a cutter reel, turn the presser wheel valve to move the presser wheel away from the cutter reel. Release the cutter brake and turn the main shaft until the notch in the main shaft is facing out. Slide the reel onto the doff plate, engaging the drawbar in the notch in the mounting hub. Push the reel to engage the drive pins, centering the reel on the drawbar. Move the selector switch (#3 on 855-089-01-C) to the "UP" position and press the "RUN" pushbutton (#6 on 855-089-01-C) until the reel is seated against the main drive shaft. The RAD will stop when the drawbar is tightened properly. To remove a cutter reel turn the presser wheel valve to move the presser wheel away from the cutter reel. Release the cutter brake and turn the reel until the notch on the main shaft is facing out. Place the selector switch to the "DOWN" position and press the "RUN" pushbutton until the RAD stops. The reel may then be removed with caution.
